Ingka Centres has submitted a plan application for development in Kungens Kurva

The proposal seeks an increase of approximately 65,000 square metres in permitted gross floor area (BTA) and would physically connect the currently separate Livli Kungens Kurva meeting place and IKEA Kungens Kurva store. Based on current plans, the projected total investment is more than SEK 5 billion, with the final amount depending on the building rights granted and future investment decisions.

Ingka Centres has submitted an application to Huddinge Municipality to amend the detailed development plan for Kurvan 2 and Kurvan 5 in Kungens Kurva. The proposal includes a significant development of the area around Livli Kungens Kurva and the IKEA store.

A central part of the proposal is to physically connect Livli Kungens Kurva, Ingka Centres’ meeting place, with the existing IKEA store. The ambition is to help develop Kungens Kurva from a destination mainly associated with retail into a more vibrant place for everyday life, where people can shop, eat, work, meet and spend time.

The plans represent a projected total investment of more than SEK 5 billion. The final amount will depend on the building rights granted and future investment decisions. The ambition is for the development to contribute to more than 2,000 jobs over time, subject to the planning process and future investment decisions.

A broader offer for Kungens Kurva

The ambition is to grow the offer from approximately 30 shops and grocery stores today to more than 150 businesses over time, including more restaurants and places to socialise and enjoy experiences. The proposal aims to create more reasons for people to visit Kungens Kurva, stay longer and spend time there throughout the day.

“Kungens Kurva has been an important part of IKEA’s history since 1965, and IKEA remains a defining part of the area”, says Louise Lundquist, Project Development Manager, Ingka Centres. “Together, Ingka Centres and IKEA see a real opportunity to help shape Kungens Kurva’s next chapter. Our ambition is to connect Livli Kungens Kurva with the IKEA store and create a broader mix of shops, food, services and experiences – giving people more reasons to visit, meet and spend time here throughout the day. The final scope will depend on the planning process and the building rights granted.”

IKEA has been present in Kungens Kurva since 1965 and is an important anchor in the area. Ingka Centres’ proposal builds on the area’s existing offering and on Livli Kungens Kurva's role as a meeting place alongside the IKEA store. Livli Kungens Kurva was the first Ingka Centres meeting place in Sweden to be rebranded as Livli.

Kungens Kurva is part of a wider area undergoing change, with new homes and infrastructure developments planned. The ambition is to contribute to a more mixed-use district, bringing together retail, restaurants, services, workplaces and experiences, while strengthening the area’s role as a destination for people across the Stockholm region.

Next steps

The application will proceed through the detailed development plan process in Huddinge Municipality. Submission is an important planning step, but it is not a final investment decision. The final scope, building rights and investment level will depend on the continued planning process and future decisions. A final investment decision will be made later in the process.
